mesa update/graphics card errors
Hello :-)

Have been running Neptune for a few months, and it's wonderful. PC is running better after the latest updates, which is great, but unfortunately there's a graphics driver error.

Neptune version number: neptune 5, kernel 4.17 (graphics issues with 4.18), all updates done.

Hardware specs:
Code:

03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 09)

Games either black screen or unable to initialize OpenGL (error code CS-1842), or say need to update graphics drivers and InitializeEngineGraphics failed.

Had been difficult to update mesa ... realised it hadn't gone through, so I checked in Muon and tried to manually update those marked 'upgradeable' ... various errors/crashes, but eventually managed to install it, with everything running really well, except for this graphics issue. I realise now that I shouldn't have persisted in trying to do these upgrades.

I don't know how to revert or if it's safe to uninstall, or what to uninstall, so I just did a reboot, updated wine-staging, and tried a fresh game install, but same error. Not sure what to do.

RE: mesa update/graphics card errors
Please check first if the upgrade did run through successfully.
Code:
sudo apt install -f

I have an AMD R5 running without any issues here.

Thanks for response. I'd done a format/reinstall lastnight, as the 4.17 version of Neptune that I install has the previous mesa version. I install wine-staging for the full system, which I noticed added some of the latest version of mesa. Discover updates shows three 18.2.6 updates needed, and there are 3 files that look like the upgrade to the 4.18 kernel (too many issues with graphics, so I use 4.17 for now ... thanks for advice via previous email).

I'm fully backed up at this point, so can try those 3 mesa updates, and will run the command you've advised ... just to be sure, that command won't install the kernel updates?

RE: mesa update/graphics card errors
I went ahead and did the mesa updates anyway, and tried the kernel also ... with a clean format, they've worked ... must have been something in my system, as I hadn't done a format/reinstall for quite a while. The updates brought up another kernel update ... lots of different errors and crashes unfortunately; just not able to use 4.18. Have been able to install 4.17 and purge 4.18, and mesa 18.2.6 seems to be fine.
