Has kalarm been replaced?

Has kalarm been replaced?
I installed kalarm w/ APT.
Code:
#apt-get install kalarm
I logged out and then logged back in.
kalarm is a KDE application. The purpose of kalarm is to pop up a dialog box with a custom message after the computer time has passed the date and time entered into the dialog box when the alarm is created.
I started kalarm. Instead of its usual menu, the viewport popped up a gray dialog box with the error message, "The Akonadi personal information management service is not running. this application cannot be used without it." with a "Start" button on it.
When I clicked on the Start button, another error message popped up in the gray dialog box, saying "The Akonadi personal information management service is not operational." with a "Details" button on it.
When I clicked on that button, another viewport appeared prompting me to save its error messages to a file. I did. kalarm saved messages to a text file called akonadi-selftest-report-20180307.txt. This file has 466 lines.

I don't know what akonadi is. I don't understand why the install w/ apt-get failed. Was kalarm replaced by a different KDE application that does alarms?

RE: Has kalarm been replaced?
On which version of Neptune did you install it?
In general akonadi is a service running in the background that allows communication between kaddressbook and korganizer with Kalarm.

In general akonadi is a service running in the background that allows communication between kaddressbook and korganizer with Kalarm.
I installed as superuser in Neptune 4.5 KDE Plasma 5.8.7 kernel 4.9.30.

A quick
Code:
$ps -A | grep akon
returns nothing.

Should I try removing kalarm with APT, and then reinstalling it with Software Center ?
Any other ideas?

RE: Has kalarm been replaced?
Akonadi is disabled by default. You need to start the akonadi services and edit akonadiserverrc on ~/.config/ to start the server.
The terminal command akonadictl start should also help here.

ProcessControl: Application 'akonadiserver' returned with exit code 255 (Unknown error)
"akonadiserver" crashed too often and will not be restarted!
Looks as if something failed. (But I have not logged out yet.)
Should I have done this as superuser ?

RE: Has kalarm been replaced?
Executing as user is correct.
Is mysqld or the mysql server installed? It needs it otherwise it won't work.

RE: Has kalarm been replaced?
Can you check then if the folder /var/lib/mysql-files exists? If not create it with sudo.

I created the directory my-sql-files under /var/lib as superuser.
I logged out, and then logged back in again.
Now Kalarm is working! I verified this by entering a text message
that said the computer time should read 445pm, which was the future
time for which I set the alarm. When the text message appeared, the time on my KDE taskbar read 445 pm. Great!

Thank you for helping me troubleshoot this, Leszek.

Next I will set another text message for tomorrow at a time when my computer will be off. Kalarm should display the text message as soon as I log in after this time. Will report back then.

Leszek,
May the Force be with you,

RE: Has kalarm been replaced?
When I logged back into my computer account as user the Kalarm viewport was still open. No message viewport appeared. The kalarm icon appears in the system tray. The test alarm I ran yesterday appears grayed-out in the kalarm viewport. However, there is no other entry in that viewport.I will re-run the test alarm today or tonight.
