Neptune 3.1 is ready

The Neptune team is proud to announce the release of Neptune 3.1 (Codename “Brotkasten”).
We worked hard and spend a lot of effort in creating this service release for Neptune 3.0. So if you like it please consider donating to us a small amount of money so we can further develop and strenghtens our efforts.

This release features the linux kernel 3.9.2 and is exclusively meant to run on 64bit CPUs. The Debian base system was updated to the released version 7.0 wheezy to provide a stable user experience. The KDE Plasma Desktop ships with version 4.10.3. Chromium was updated to version 26, Kdenlive 0.9.6, Amarok 2.7.1 and LibreOffice to version 4.0.3. We ship with the latest and greatest multimedia codecs preinstalled aswell as the flashplayer. For wireless diagnosis we ship Wireshark, Aircrack-ng and kismon.

We a lot effort in adding some new applications and fixing of bugs.
We now include the brandnew Ardour 3.1 audio editing suite including the jackd audio daemon. We added the disk-manager as an graphical application to manage your /etc/fstab mount options. We also added the easy to use knetworkmounter which uses fuse and mount to directly mount remote folders. You can call run the program with the hotkey Super+K (Win+K). We added apper as the new default software center. For the first time we also support the usage of zram in the kernel which creates a compressed swap file in memory for low memory computers. It can be activated by installing the neptune-zram-config package.

Default Desktop

Upgrade notice:
To upgrade Neptune 3.0 to 3.1 just perform an normal system update. This will upgrade the system except for LibreOffice which must be updated manually by performing the instructions in the forum. To Upgrade KDE please enable the Neptune KDE Repository.
Adding new applications like disk-manager, knetworkmounter, apper needs to be done manually.

Neptune 3.0 “Brotkasten” Release is ready

This release features the linux kernel 3.8.4 and is exclusively meant to run on 64bit CPUs. We switched the Debian base from testing to wheezy to provide a more stable and better experience. The KDE Plasma Desktop ships with version 4.10.1. Chromium was updated to version 25, Icedove to version 10.0.12ESR, Gimp 2.8.2, Kdenlive 0.9.4, Amarok 2.7, VLC 2.0.5. We ship with the latest and greates multimedia codecs preinstalled aswell as the flashplayer. For wireless diagnosis we ship Wireshark, Aircrack-ng and kismon.

We put a lot of effort in adding new features and fixing lots of bugs.
The Neptune Installer now comes with a summary page allowing you to see a summary of the installation options aswell as allowing you to change the language and localization of your system right from within the installer (the new language-selector tool can be called after installation aswell). We also added a new advanced installation mode the Nested Installation.
Thanks to our competition in creating Kdenlive title templates we were able to put lots of cool and new title templates into this release.
The ZevenOS-Hardwaremanager was updated to be more polished and to allow even the installation of experimental proprietary graphicsdrivers (from the debian experimental repository).

Default Desktop

The artwork of Neptune 3.0 was modified aswell and for the first time also uses a custom sound theme aswell as a customized mouse cursor theme. We optimized the font rendering and turned font hinting on by default.

Lancelot new default launchermenu

The new default launchermenu to open up applications has been switched to lancelot which allows you to use all the great krunner plugins in the integrated search aswell as offering a better overview of installed applications and a clickless navigation.

Neptune 3 Feature: New artwork

Neptune 3.0 will ship with a brand new artwork. Well it is not completely new but instead based on the old one but with a more crystal clear logo and text. So we changed the wallpaper, kdm splash, plymouth splash and for the first time we also changed the sound theme that you would propably notice right away when starting Neptune 3.0. We also changed the default mouse cursor theme.

Neptune 3 RC [Update]

Update: We are currently working on the release of the final version and therefor disabled the RC Download.

We are proud to announce our release candidate of Neptune 3 “Brotkasten” our first 64bit version of Neptune. This release candidate comes with several bugfixes and changes aswell as the new KDE SC 4.10.

As this is a release candidate please consider reporting bugs.

Users of the Beta versions of Neptune 3 can upgrade safely to this new version except for KDE SC 4.10 which is available as a seperate repository. Just update your system and enable the neptune kde repository and upgrade.
You can also manually add the following sources.list

Neptune 3 Feature: Updated ZevenOS Hardwaremanager

Neptune 3.0 will ship with an updated zevenoshardwaremanager which not only uses the qml plasma core components from KDE Plasma but also comes with a handy new feature showing you the version number of the graphicsdriver you can install.
If you have the debian experimental source enabled it will allow you to choose which driver to install.

If you are using Neptune 3.0 Beta it is available as update.

Be a part of Neptune: Kdenlive title templates

You all know that Neptune loves multimedia applications and we especially love the Kdenlive video editor. If you want to help us and the community around kdenlive out then please consider creating beautiful title templates with the builtin title editor.
The 10 best title templates will be included in the next Neptune release Neptune 3.0 and you will be mentioned in the about window of Neptune as contributor. To take part in this competition you can either post your template in the forum or write me an email.

All you need to have is a linux distribution with kdenlive running and a graphicseditor just like krita, gimp or inkscape. Then you can create and load your graphics into the Kdenlive title editor and save it as template (including the graphic files in the template). The title editor even allows simple animations so be aware of that.
It would be also wonderful to use a creative commons license so that your titles can be shared and remixed in the community.

Neptune 3 Beta 3 is ready

We are proud to announce our third extra beta of Neptune 3 “Brotkasten” our first 64bit version of Neptune. This unplanned beta release was created due to the fact the KDE Team added a new release candidate and moved its release date of KDE SC 4.10.
In this release we include the current development release candidate 2 of KDE SC 4.10. (KDE SC 4.9.97)
We also patched the notifications system to show notifications properly.
As this is a beta version and we are using a release candidate of KDE Plasma Desktop please consider reporting bugs either to us or upstream.

Users of the Beta 2 of Neptune 3 can upgrade safely to this new version except for KDE SC 4.10 which isn’t available currently as we intend to provide a seperate repository for it. Just enable the neptune repository and upgrade
