ZevenOS-Neptune 1.9 is ready
Allgemein 08:44 PM
We the ZevenOS Team are proud to announce the release of ZevenOS-Neptune 1.9.
ZevenOS-Neptune is a ZevenOS Distro based fully upon Debian Squeeze, except for a newer kernel and some drivers.
In this Version we aimed for creating a fast running Live System for USB Sticks. Therefore we developed an easy to use USB Installer aswell as a Persistent Creator that allows you to store changes to your system on your usb stick.
The Debian software repositories are updating the included software regulary so that you will have a long supported distro.
This Version carries on the codename and philosophy of “NextGeneration” by providing a modern KDE 4 based Desktop with tons of Multimedia Software aswell as a brand new polished design. As this version was also designed for computer science students it also includes the Development Platform Eclipse and some network diagnostic tools(Wireshark,Kismet,Aircrack-NG). For low-end computers with less amounts of ram it also includes a low memory mode Desktop which is based upon fluxbox. This one only consumes about 90 MB of ram.
Technical Data:
Kernel: 2.6.35.5
Xorg: 7.5
KDE: 4.4.5 (with customized Theme and settings)
Lowmemory Desktop: fluxbox, lxpanel, rox-filer

USB Install Guide
|
Download USB EasyInstaller for Windows or Linux. Fire up the application (make sure to make it executable in linux before trying to execute it) and choose the ISO as Input. Insert your usb stick and make sure its formatted in FAT32 and has at least 2GB of free space. Just click Ok then and wait until the copy operation finishes. Congratulations you have a working live usb stick with ZevenOS-Neptune. To enable persistency (which allows you to save settings you make on your live system) boot up the live system and open up the Persistent Creator from the startmenu. In Persistent Creator set the size you want to occupie for the persistent data. Click ok and wait until you will get a notice which reminds you to restart first before you can use persistency. |

Please what are the username and password. These are requested when adjustig settings.
Tuesday October 12th, 2010 at 11:19 AM
This is normally not required when adjusting settings with kdesudo.
The Live User is called ‘user’ (without quotes) and password is ‘live’ if you are ever asked for this.

ZevenOS-Neptune 1.9 is a distro rolling-release?
Wednesday October 13th, 2010 at 04:28 PM
Its based on squeeze thats in a freeze now. It might change in the next version, depending on how old the packages are squeeze ships in comparisson to testing or sid. It will likely switch to a testing ‘rolling’ Release distro I suppose.

In some Times Bill Gates have to worry !

how do I make Neptune boot into English by default? Thanks
Thursday October 21st, 2010 at 09:30 AM
Choose the English boot entry. (the one with (EN) at the end)
Saturday October 23rd, 2010 at 01:41 AM
What I mean to ask is if there is something in Neptune that will allow me to change the boot order to make (EN) boot by default so I don’t have to select it each time I boot? Thanks, and thanks again for all the developers’ work on a great OS.

If you created a LiveUSB stick with the easyusbinstaller then you will find a syslinux.cfg file which contains the menu structure and can be edited with a simply text editor.
I think the structure is self explaining and you’ll find out how to change it to your needs
Sunday October 24th, 2010 at 01:21 AM
That worked perfectly! Thanks so much.

what is user and password for gnome version? user and live don’t work
Wednesday December 8th, 2010 at 10:58 AM
It is user and live.
You may have the wrong boot parameters in your bootloader you need to add live-config to the end of the english boot entry. (With the arrow keys go down to the english boot entry press TAB then you will see the boot commands add the command live-config and press enter)
