ZevenOS needs you !
Allgemein March 29th, 2009As you might know maintaining a linux distribution is not so easy. There are lots of requests and good ideas and the more popular your distribution the more ideas are coming up. The problem that occurs is that you come to a point were you cannot handle all this requests and ideas, because time is missing or you missing some support.
It would be very nice to have new programmers, new hardware, document writers, graphic designers and more to support the work of ZevenOS .
Programmers that help porting the OpenBFS Driver to Linux.
Document writers that write small tutorials on how to use applications on ZevenOS
Graphic Designers to support us with fantastic new wallpapers, bootscreens and websites.
And new Hardware as the currently main development platform a Medion MD41300 (about 6 years old) seems to break down every minute. So the best you can do now to support us is make a donation. (see the yellow button in the right navigation )

Since the whole mantra of Linux is “freedom to modify” and you don’t allow me the freedom to modify something even as simple as a Firefox settings and also have completely blanked out delete function on some files I can no longer use your linux and so I am moving over to SUSE. It seems like a fair system but without the
freedom to modify it is NOT linux in any shape or form.

Hello and thank you for such a pretty and up-to-date Linux distribution. I have been using Linux since I retired 2 years ago and thought I’d never find a distribution that suited me perfectly until I discovered this one 48 hours ago! It is extremely professional in resolution, wireless card and network detection, look and feel. I wish to assist you in whatever capacity you deem best. I am a Canadian who has written many technical articles in English and perhaps I could help write documentation. I am also an amateur graphic artist of some distinction and could assist programmers in preparation of splash and desktop backgrounds.
Please let me know what I can help you with beside a healthy contribution.
Kind regards,
Dr. P. Venkmann

@User:
You have the possibiltiy to change everything in ZevenOS. The distribution and our tools are all licenesed under the GPL and the sources are included.
You are also free to modify the firefox settings as you whish.
You have definitely the right to modify.

I am sorry to see a USER upset as I have changed all the settings in Firefox and several other areas of this distribution with the ZevenOS tools that I think are remarkably well-designed to allow – indeed encourage – a user to change many settings.
By a strange quirk of fate I just gave up on openSUSE 11.1 after months of trying to get it to recognize wireless networks and wireless printers which it never really figured out. I also found YasT to be difficult to work with during three installs as it will not let you ‘undo’ mistaken settings during the install process. You can go ‘backwards’ to settings and you think they are being changed but at the summary screen they are just listed with your mistakes compounding the problems. As well, LiLo may be the grandfather of Linux boot-loaders but it should be retired (as I am) because I feel GRUB is superior in every way. I also found the graphics and look of SUSE (besides the green chameleon and install screen) to be tired-looking and in big need of a face lift.
That being said, I don’t want SUSE to gang-up on me as I am old and badly outnumbered I am sure, but after spending nearly 6 months with this distribution and not progressing very far in spite of their technical support, it was truly time to move on.
Regards,
Dr. P. Venkmann
