A bunch of new updates for ZevenOS are ready. You can get them easily via our ZevenOS repository.

Here are some of the important updates.

First of all the Deskbar 2. We updated it and included the possibility to change the output volume with the scroll wheel. The clock now shows the date as a tooltip and the performance especially on older machines has become better.

Besides the Deskbar we also updated the Disk-Manager. It now starts with the advanced settings so that you can find and mount your partitions faster. Included is a new autodetection mode for BFS partitions that allows you to directly mount them (ZETA partitions from version 1.0 excluded, because they identify themselves as BSD partitions)

We also added some new programs . One of them is People. Just like in the old BeOS days this application allows you to create contacts and manage them. We take advantage of the extened attributes that are already included in the ZevenOS standardfilesystem JFS. Users of Ext3 need to add the mount option user_xattr to their ext3 partition. Use the Diskmanager to accomplish this.

People for ZevenOS can also export contact information as Vcard and import them aswell. But Vcard import has still some issues regarding 100 % compatibility to all Vcard versions.

For all of you who like the KDE or Windows look and also like the ZevenOS System and applications, but have problems with the standard interface of ZevenOS we included an easy to use app that allows you to switch the desktop and window decor to a KDE and Windows look a like.

This app not only switches the desktop but also the interaction with hotkeys. So that the normal KDE / Windows hotkeys should work with ZevenOS aswell.

A screenshot of the Windows/KDE mode is located at the Screenshots page.

One little update regarding myself. With the help of some donations and some own savings of money I could upgrade to a new developmentnotebook.

Its a Lenovo 3000 N200 with a Pentium Dual Core , 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HD and a Nvidia 7300 GO.
