Allgemein 08:22 PMThe Neptune team is proud to announce the release of Neptune 3.3.
We worked hard and spend a lot of effort in creating this service release for Neptune 3.0. So if you like it please consider donating to us a small amount of money so we can further develop and strenghtens our efforts.

This release features the linux kernel 3.10.12 and is exclusively meant to run on 64bit CPUs. The KDE Plasma Desktop ships with version 4.11.2. Chromium was updated to version 29, VLC to 2.1 and LibreOffice to version 4.1.2.3. We ship with the latest and greatest multimedia codecs preinstalled aswell as the flashplayer. For wireless diagnosis we ship Wireshark, Aircrack-ng and kismon.
We took a lot effort in cleaning up the system(like discussed in the forum) and removed Eclipse aswell as muon software center and qapt-deb-installer.
We added the brand new version 2.1 of VLC which comes with lots of improvements in audio and device management. We removed pavucontrol which is no longer used as we don’t ship pulseaudio. Kernel 3.10.12 comes with patched zram to prevent freezes.
We also added a renewed quick installation manual.
Upgrade notice:
To upgrade Neptune 3.2 to 3.3 just perform an normal system update. This will upgrade the system except for the KDE Plasma Workspace. To Upgrade KDE please enable the Neptune KDE Repository. Please use english language here. We only can understand english and german.
If you are asking about Nvidia driver 325 you need to either download and install this on your own or enable the experimental debian repository and run zevenoshardwaremanager.

The problem with translations done by machines are that they are not very accurate just like in this case. (the german translation is crap and I don’t get the message)

In comment 3, you state there is a bittorrent link. Where is it for 3.3? I see a bitttorent option, but it is for an older version.

Everyone,
What Peter basically said to Leszek is, it´s his & our responsibilty to translate what he said and that the board reeks of chauvinism for asking him to speak either German or English.
Allow me to answer: that is a ludicrous and arrogant thing to say. If anyone is the chauvinist it is you Peter: you go wherever you want and speak your native tongue without caring if the other person understands or not and when they ask you to speak the international language of business you accuse them of chauvinism.
The cajones of some people is unbelievable. Leszek, if your decide not to post this no problem. I needed to vent after seeing something that insulting.

I only said that we provide a bittorrent sync folder which allows you to download the latest version. You just have to add the has on the download page to your btsync client.

Downloaded the iso in about 5 mins
zevenos5-desktop.iso
machine translations are not very good, but guess the russians or other non english / german people need to use a translation service of some sort
машинный перевод не очень хорошо, но думаю, русские или другие не английский / немецкий народ нужно использовать услуги по переводу какой-то
put the russian translation into google translate and it made more sense than the russian did 🙂

Hello Leszek! Do not mind the member of the Red Army pouting about his unwelcome spew of cyrillic language on a German-English forum. His little snit shows his utter ignorance about how life really works outside of Russia. He should get out more. Perhaps he can take English or Chinese lessons as they are the fastest growing languages in international business and on the Net.
I downed and loaded Neptune 3,3 and gave it a whirl Live and all things checked out wonderfully – until I installed it. I could not log-in as my Asus Laptop’s Synaptic Touchpad would not move the cursor. A shame realy as it works Live so has me scratchng my head. Any advice? I think it is a most polished OS from boot to desktop andd I hate to letit go.
Sincerely,
Mars Bonfire

Hmm did you try the failsafe boot mode?
Normally everything should run fine when live mode is running fine. Maybe the installation did not quite work.
Also keycombinations like CTRL+ALT+F1 should drop you to a tty shell where you should be able to login to gather more information about why it isn’t working normally.

I have used ZevenOS for years and love it so I decided to give Neptune 3.3 a spin. Although I have searched the forum I have been unable to find answers to the following issues I have. Can any one help me understand a few WHYs?
1) Why does Neptune require users to type in CTRL+D during the boot process to get to continue to the desktop? I have never encountered that protocol anywhere before and it makes for a scary moment with new users as it makes it seem as if the install went wrong.
2) Why has Chromium been made so integral to this lovely OS, that removing it destroys the entire system? To me, that does not seem to be a very good idea…
3) As K-Mail refuses to activate Akonadi no matter what I have tried. As such, KMail does not work at all. It would seem a good idea to include both Icedove and Iceweasel right from the start during the install phase of Neptune.
Sincere best wishes.

1) Thats not normal. Is there any message indicating why you have to press CTRL+D ?
2) Removing chromium should be no problem. What exact problem did you encounter ?
3) Have you tried this also ? http://www.zevenos.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=11607&pid=18125#pid18125
Please use the forum for further discussions as you already have an account there it seems the better plattform for this kind of discussion.
We have an Neptune subforum with german and english subsubforums 😉

“a rolling release model which updates the desktop regulary”.
monthly or every second month or how often?
i don’t need long answers to take your time.
thank you!

This depends on the desktop updates upstream. We tend to update to the desktop when enough bugfixes (and important ones) are available.
